Microbes

Digital photographs

“We are practically walking petri dishes, rife with bacterial colonies from our skin to the deepest recesses of our guts” (Wenner, 2007).

These photographs explore the relationship between humans and fungi.
The six macro photographs show a selection of different fungi and bacteria found growing in Petri dishes containing microbial growth from samples of different areas of the human body.
The aim of this work is to familiarise viewers with organisms often thought of as ‘other’, and to show that they are as much a part of us as our own human cells.
