Anthropogenic Tuna Skeleton

2022
Plastic cutlery

Anthropogenic Tuna Skeleton is a life-size model of a tuna fish skeleton made entirely from plastic cutlery.

“England gets through 4.25 billion knives, forks and other kinds of throwaway plastic cutlery a year – which equates to 75 items a person” (Bawden, 2021).

Of the enormous amount of plastic waste created every year, less than 10% is recycled and much of it ends up in the oceans (Greenpeace, 2021).  This work represents the devastating impact of plastic pollution on sea life by transforming one of the most commonly used and discarded single-use items (plastic cutlery) into the remains of a species already threatened by overfishing.
